  • WHAT IS PROCESS MINING?

In order to achieve your business results such as profitability, market share and sales increase, your processes must meet your customers' requests in terms of quality, time and price in order to realize those. How well your processes meet these customer demands is also hidden in the activities of your processes. One of the methods we use to detect those secrets is process analysis. TRADITIONAL PROCESS ANALYSIS Process Analysis, developed by the mother and father of Industrial Engineering, Dr. Lillian Gilbreth and Frank Gilbreth, is a business tool where your processes are visualized using post-its and non-value-added activities such as complexity, bottlenecks, unnecessary loops are detected on a flowchart. With the increase of amount and complexity of the processes over time, the process analysis has begun to be insufficient for the following reasons: Process maps are based on people's perceptions and are usually drawn according to the most common situation. In this case, the most common problems may appear, but you will not see the infrequent ones. You cannot detect process variants that occur based on different personal decisions. It is an application that is usually drawn with a team and takes time. There is no instant integration with the data in the process (duration, number of cycles, quantity, categorical factors, etc.). For this reason, with the increase in digitalization today, Process Mining is used to reveal the secrets of the processes operating in such environments (software and hardware). WHAT IS PROCESS MINING? Process Mining is a new technology based on artificial intelligence algorithms that reveals the flows of processes in all their variations with data support, by monitoring the log records of the processes in the system at the changeover points. WHAT IS LOG RECORD? All software keep event logs with the syslog standard released in the 1980s. In these records, basically 4 data is used by process mining. These are; Case ID: For example, a PO number. Activity name: One of the activities under the case IS. For example Purchase requisition creation Activity start: For example: When the purchase requisition activity is started Activity end: For example: When the purchase requisition activity is finished These four data are essential for Process Mining. The analyzes you can do with other categorical data that can be excluded are almost unlimited. BiLiG OpEx offers its customers "digitalization that pays for itself". • HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH 6 SIGMA?

We have learned in a previous blog that 6 Sigma is an improvement methodology developed to reduce variation in processes. Like Lean, Six Sigma is like a toolbox containing many Operational Excellence tools. With 6 Sigma, the inputs (x's) causing these variations in the outputs (Y'S) are detected and formulated as in the picture below. Y = f (x) is used to define functions. Below you can see a 6 Sigma project explained according to this model: First of all, the problems (Y and y's) are defined. Then, the inputs that we think affect this problem are defined. (x's) Of course, since many inputs are defined, it is necessary to prioritize and reduce them to the levels we can control. For this, we use Logic Filters. Logic Filters are developed to solve problems with 5 phases called DMAIC in 6 Sigma. With different tools used in each phase, many input (x's) mentioned above are eliminated and reduced to the controllable number that has the most effect on the output. • WHAT IS 6 SIGMA?

6 Sigma is an improvement methodology developed to reduce variation in processes. Like Lean, Six Sigma is like a toolbox containing many Operational Excellence tools. Although a small part of 6 Sigma tools are also used in Lean, it mainly consists of Problem Definition, Problem Solving, Data Analysis and Statistical Methods. Six Sigma is mostly used to solve complex problems of quality. For example, the diameters of some of the bolts produced are not within the desired tolerances, which can be easily solved with the the Six Sigma Method. WHAT IS VARIATION? Variation is basically not consistently getting the same results from the output you expect from the process (quality, efficiency, etc.) There are two types of variation in a process: Centering Problem (left): When the desired parameter is above and / or below tolerances (or specification limits) it is called the centering problem. For example, the process runs slower than desired, the drill bit pierces above the set value, the fabric is darker than the color we want. Scattering Problem (right): The situation where the desired parameter is scattered over larger than desired area is called the scattering problem. For example, the cycle rate for the same product varies at different times, the color tones in different meters of the fabric are different. There may be situations where both occur at the same time. Variation exists in every process. The sources of variation may be due to known reasons (your journey to come home, which takes 30 minutes on average, took 45 minutes due to snow) or the natural oscillation of the process (sometimes it may take 30 minutes, sometimes 32 minutes). For this reason, since it is known that the product desired to be produced as 30 microns in the example below cannot always be produced at this value, tolerances (specification limits) have been established. When your process goes beyond these limits, it produces erroneous output. The more you reduce the process variability, the less likely you are to produce faulty output. This will increase customer satisfaction.
